Les Vendanges Grape Harvest Tapestry
Our artisans have woven their stunning interpretation of an historical tapestry masterpiece. The original was woven, using silks and wools, in Flanders around 1500 and is currently on display at the Cluny Museum in France. A typical depiction of the noble daily life theme found in the tapestries of the 15th century.
The Lord and Lady are shown overseeing the grape harvest and the pressing of the grapes. Our tapestry was masterfully crafted, paying attention to detail, and ensuring that all of the richness of the original translated perfectly to modern textile form.
Size: 75 inches wide by 53 inches tall - Weight: 4 pounds
Material: 100% cotton. Gently vacuum or dry clean as needed.
Tapestry, Les Vendanges shows the harvesting of the grapes in France. The artist Poulbot initiated the tradition of local artists painting the labels for the bottles, to raise money for charities. Can you imagine the beautiful labels back then for the bottle of wine? They are pretty spectacular works-of-art today, too.
In more modern times, since 1934, in France there is a great festival in mid October called Fete des Vendanges de Montmartre (the Grape Harvest Festival of Montmartre). This celebrates the wine from the local vineyards. Of all Paris's vineyards, Montmartre's is the most renowned festival to this day.
