History: John VIII Palaelogus is an Italian jacquard wall tapestry. This artwork depicts John VII Palaiologos (or Palaeologus) who was the Byzantine Emperor from 1425 to 1447 in Constantinople. The original is from the work of Italian Renaissance painter Benozzo Gozzoli (c. 1421-1497). He is best known for a series of murals in the Palazzo Medici-Riccardi depicting festive, vibrant processions with fine attention to detail and a pronounced International Gothic influence.
