History: Saint Nicolas is a jacquard wall tapestry made in Belgium. It portrays the work of Stefano di Giovanni de Consolo. We see the Saint holding a bible with a priest's staff behind him. He is in a rust colored robe with the head gear which matches the gold of the background. Saint Nicholas is a saint often depicted by Russian religious art in the iconographic and Baroque styles, and is known as the patron saint of Russian merchants. There are many miracles reported by Saint Nicolas including his miracle of wheat multiplication where the supply of wheat was unchanged after he unloaded two year's worth to help the needy, to the astonishment of the sailors. This tapestry is hanging in Paris, Louvre and is also called Saint Nicolas de Bari (1430-1435). A fine piece of religious art for you to proudly display in your home.
