The Bar De L'Entracte Tapestry shows us a very famous cafe. Just across the cobble stone street, wedged next to the arched stone passage to Rue de Richelieu (the famed Paris theatre), a tiny Bar de l'Entracte (cafe or bistro), known as "Intermission" serves aperitif with breads & goat cheese. It's a favorite place for many.

The excitement comes with the thespians sitting at the tables surrounded by potted geraniums waiting patiently until the theatre bell rings out, calling them to their seats. It's an Avant spectacle or ‘before the show’ kind-of place to go.

Our artist George Bates captures a glimpse into this exciting Parisian world where the cafe plays such an important role to the theatre next door. Merely a simple pleasure of a bite to eat, while excitedly waiting for the curtain call.
